Summer Xperience is a 3 Week Program with focuses in Music Performance, Songwriting, Music Production, Composing for Visual Media and Music Entrepreneurship. The Xperience is offered to all skill levels and includes master classes, private lessons, recitals and large ensembles taught by LACM faculty and top music industry members.

JUNE 22 – JUNE 26

  • Private lessons and daily technique classes in your chosen instrument.
  • Placement into bands working on performing and arranging cover songs as a group.
  • Panels, seminars & workshops focused on the music business, live performance techniques, and more!
  • A recording session in LACM’s state of the art studio and a filmed final performance at the end of the week.
  • Optional open rehearsal time from 5pm to 8pm every night to work on solo projects and other collaborations.
  • Learn more about ProTools; the industry standard for music production and recording.
  • Learn the techniques you need to build a successful and effective home recording setup.
  • Workshops and clinics on live DJ techniques, studio etiquette, mixing and more!
  • Learn from professional engineers, producers, and artists while developing your own tracks to present during the live show at the end of the week.
  • Optional open studio time from 5pm to 8pm every night to work on solo projects and other collaborations.
  • This program is a combination of the classes and workshops running during the week with additional programming tailored to each applicant based on their goals for the week. IAS students also have an hour-long private lesson each day.

JUNE 29 – JULY 3

  • Experience co writing in assigned groups based on musical preferences and writing style.
  • Record acoustic demos of original material with experienced producers and engineers from LACM’s faculty.
  • Learn more about top lining, the business behind songwriting, Nashville style “Writers in the Round” performances, and more!
  • A recording session in LACM’s state of the art studio and a filmed final performance at the end of the week.
  • Optional open rehearsal time from 5pm to 8pm every night to work on solo projects and other collaborations.
  • Immerse yourself in the life of a record producer, work with songwriters to pre-produce and arrange tracks.
  • Work alongside LACM’s experienced production staff to engineer and mix the completed songs.
  • Touch on more advanced production topics related to mixing, recording live instruments, and creating tracks.
  • Learn more about creating tracks for top lining, the business behind music production, and more!
  • Optional open studio time from 5pm to 8pm every night to work on solo projects and other collaborations.

JULY 6 – JULY 10

  • Workshops on social media strategies, building an effective website, syncing music for Film & TV, and more!
  • Clinics and masterclasses focused on the music business and the inner workings of the industry.
  • Field trips to experience some of the Los Angeles music industry in person!
  • Work on an artist project plan with our industry staff members (marketing, release, etc.) to present at the end of the week.
  • Learn the differing techniques for composing for comedy versus composing for drama.
  • Learn more about MIDI and electronic film scoring.
  • Discuss creating music for video games, writing with lyrics for TV/Film, and more!
  • Learn from LACM’s leading industry staff and discuss their real-world experience with composing for film and TV.
  • Compose to a selection of film during the week in LACM’s state of the art studios and present during the final showcase

Step 2: Upload All Application Requirements


  • Performance Applicants – Please upload a 1-minute video of you playing your primary instrument.
  • Production Applicants – Please upload 1 track you have worked on.
  • Songwriting Applicants – Please submit a video of 1 original song. (Lyric sheets are not required but can be attached below)
  • Advanced Production Applicants – Please upload 1 track you have worked on and upload a PDF page with a description of your involvement.
  • Composing for Visual Media Applicants – Please upload 1 composition you have worked on.
  • Music Entrepreneurship Applicants – Please upload a 1-minute video describing your interest in the music industry.
  • Applicants must upload a 1-3-minute video that showcases your artistry and a PDF page with a description of your career goals in music.

The audio/video component of the application is required. The Summer Xperience application will need to be complete in order to process.

Step 3: Submit Your Application


After you submit your app, you can expect the review process to take 3-4 weeks.

After acceptance, all students will receive detailed information about transportation, housing, and program scheduling 30 days before the start of the program.

Summer Xperience arranged housing includes a hotel room, an onsite nurse, resident advisers, hotel security personnel and 3 meals a day. Roommate selection upon request – not guaranteed. Double Rooms & Single Rooms available.

*Breakfast will be provided at The Hilton. Lunch & Dinner will be provided at The LACM Café. Daily LACM Shuttle Transportation to and from campus is also provided. 

After acceptance, all students will receive detailed information about transportation, housing, and program schedule 30 days before the start of the program.

LAX Transportation

Campers can purchase an airport shuttle to and from LAX International Airport. LACM only offers a round trip shuttle. LACM will transport students to LAX on the Sunday before & Saturday after the program. LACM charge is $80.

Pick up: 2pm at LAX, Sunday | Departs Hotel: 10am, Saturday

It is recommended that flights arrive no later than 1pm on Sunday for the shuttle pickup at 2pm. For departures on Saturday, flights should be departing after 1pm. LACM is not responsible for shuttle rides or flights that are missed if these recommendations are not followed. Student will be required to make alternate travel arrangements if conflicts arise. This service is curb pickup and drop off only. Students will be solely responsible for navigating the airport, though LACM staff will assist where possible.
