05.21 Maxayn Lewis

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Maxayn was a conservatory-trained pianist and attended Oklahoma State University where she studied sociology and psychology. She sang with Ike & Tina Turner, as an Ikette, where she learned a lot about the music business. She later toured with Bobby Blue Bland, and then formed her band, Maxayn (“goddess of the wind”). Maxayn co-wrote “So Much More” by Ramsey Lewis, and toured as a backing vocalist with Gino Vannelli, Donna Summer, and Rufus. She has worked with Sammy Hagar, Donna Summer, Celine Dion, Bonnie Raitt, Simple Minds, Duran Duran, Smokey Robinson, Ricky Martin, Britney Spears, the Gap Band, Rosanne Cash, B.B. King. Maxayn provided background vocals for the soundtrack of the film Grease, and in 2020, she sang the vocals for Ma Rainey (played by Viola Davis) in the film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
