Covid 19 Update 33

Campus Closure Notice

Dear LACM Students,

We would like to inform you that we have recently received information about a confirmed case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in at least one student at LACM.  Due to privacy mandates, we are unable to identify the student(s) who have reported the confirmed case.  You may have had an exposure to this case if you were either (1) on campus this week, (2) were within 6 feet of the infected person for 15 minutes or more in a 24-hour period, or (3) had unprotected contact with the infected person’s body fluids and/or secretions, for example, being coughed or sneezed on, sharing utensils or saliva, or providing care without using appropriate protective equipment.

As there is likely to be widespread potential exposure due to the activities and final exams/concerts this week, we are taking the precautionary measure to close the LACM campus effective immediately and for the remainder of the holiday break.  We will open campus for facility use on January 3rd and the Winter quarter will proceed on campus as planned, beginning on January 10th.  We will be requiring all students and staff to test prior to their first class on campus.  Testing hours will be expanded for the first week of the quarter to 7:30am-5:30pm, or you can deliver your own outside test result within 72 hours of coming to campus for the first time by uploading using this form:

We also recommend that each of you receive a negative PCR lab test result prior to traveling.  For information on testing sites:

We acknowledge that this will be a disappointment for those of you with remaining concerts and recitals.  We will reschedule each of these shows as soon as possible when we return for the Winter quarter.  We know you’ve worked very hard and we want to make sure you are able to present the results of your efforts!  Your department head(s) will be in contact to arrange for the rescheduling and for any questions you might have.

The following are the recommendations following a potential exposure, issued by the LA County Public Health Department:

NOTE: Persons who have recovered from laboratory confirmed COVID-19 within the last 90 days are exempt from quarantining or testing for COVID-19. However, these individuals should monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days following an exposure.

If you do not meet the quarantine exemption above, it is recommended to self-quarantine away from others and monitor symptoms for 10 days after your last exposure or until you receive a negative PCR test result 3-5 days following the potential exposure. If you are a fully vaccinated student and do not have symptoms, you may undergo a modified quarantine with certain conditions below, as recommended by the LA County Public Health Department:

  • Get a COVID-19 test 3 to 5 days after your last potential exposure.
  • If you live at the Cadence and do not have symptoms, you should remain on campus in your residence, or off campus if you will be with your family during the holidays, until you have completed modified quarantine for 10 days or until receiving the negative test results as mentioned above (but you should definitely receive a PCR negative test result prior to traveling or coming in close contact with other individuals).
  • You should not participate in social activities or go to any indoor public- or community-setting until you receive a negative test result or have completed modified quarantine for the full 10 days.
  • If you receive a negative result from a test conducted 3 to 5 days after last exposure, you may be released from modified quarantine at that time.
  • If you receive a positive result OR you develop symptoms of COVID-19 at any point within 14 days of your last exposure, you must immediately isolate and follow Home Isolation Guidance ( If your symptoms become severe, seek medical advice for further guidance. Symptoms of COVID-19 may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus and may include one of more of the following: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headache sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, and/or new loss of taste or smell. Note this list does not include all possible symptoms of COVID-19.
  • If you do test positive, please send your test results to
  • If you decline testing, you may be released from quarantine at Day 10 but must continue to monitor your health and adhere to COVID-19 prevention precautions through Day 14. See Home Quarantine Guidance ( 2019/covidquarantine/).
