Bridge to Success Announcement

Launching New Bridge to Success program! Enrollment available Summer 2022 for incoming LACM students.

The Los Angeles College of Music Bridge to Success program is an 11-week, one-quarter pre-collegiate certificate in English language proficiency, academic writing, and music prep study for students to acquire knowledge and skills to get a head start toward success in their degree. The program also includes cultural immersion activities where students learn about life in Los Angeles through visits to local points of interest and music industry landmarks.

Bridge to Success is designed for:

  • Applicants who have qualified for LACM admission in academics and music but have not achieved the minimum requirements in English language proficiency. Students who successfully complete the program and pass the exit exam do not need to retake the TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo tests and are guaranteed acceptance into the degree program for which they applied.
  • Applicants who are fully accepted into an LACM degree program, but want to improve their academic English language skills and get a head start on their studies. Classes prepare students for academic success in research, writing and oral presentation, and in the fundamentals of musicianship.

The language module is a content-based Intensive English Program (IEP) that integrates topics in modern music as a basis for reading, writing, grammar, listening, and speaking study. Learn the words in English that are common in the music industry.

The musicianship module covers fundamental music theory, ear training and keyboard skills and is transferrable to all LACM degrees.

The cultural immersion activities introduce students to life in the Los Angeles area and give them a chance to visit important sites in the music and entertainment industry such as recording studios and music publishing companies, as well as an opportunity to have some fun visiting beach communities, theme parks and performance venues.

Take advantage of this program and get prepared for your time at LACM. Make friends with other LACM students and get comfortable living in the USA before you start classes. Los Angeles is a big city; learn how to travel on the Metro Rail and explore independently.
