In response to circumstances surrounding COVID-19, LACM is now offering a 100% online Summer at LACM experience & we are happy to announce the inclusion of Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band Camp to our online summer roster.

The online band camp will consist of 4 – 5 hours of instrument specific clinics, masterclasses, and other courses lead each day by Gordon Goodwin and other members of the Big Phat Band. This year, the Phat Band Camp Online will also include a brand new vocals track, including an hour of private lessons each days for vocalists looking to expand their jazz repertoire. Please submit a link to you performing on your PRIMARY instrument. Reminder: The level you choose should be the level you feel most comfortable playing and will be used for ensemble placement. Recordings do not need to be professional but should be a visual of the student playing. Active links are required for all submission videos. YouTube in preferred for video submissions and SoundCloud is preferred for any audio submissions. Audition requirements by instrument are linked below. 

Please note, a headshot is required to complete the application. 

VOCALS

Sing one minute of your best style, emphasis on jazz, R&B, blues or soul. Must be accompanied by a track or an instrument. Sing a capella from the linked sample sheet music. Use an “ah” sound while singing this example.

Gordon Goodwin

Having amassed 21 Grammy nominations, four statues and three Emmy wins, Gordon Goodwin is the most decorated big band leader in the 21st century. He is leader of Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, an internationally known ensemble with a reputation as one of the most exciting large ensembles in jazz.

The BPB has released seven critically acclaimed records, its most recent being Life in the Bubble, which garnered four Grammy Nominations, and won the Grammy for “Best Large Ensemble Album.”

Gordon’s composing for film and television has garnered him three Emmy Awards. He has written and worked with artists like Ray Charles, Christina Aguilera, Johnny Mathis, John Williams, Natalie Cole, David Foster, Sarah Vaughan, Mel Torme, and Quincy Jones, to name a few. His charts are played all over the world, and along with his method books and CDs, have been a robust source of inspiration and learning for thousands of young musicians.

Goodwin is the host of a popular new radio program called “Phat Tracks with Gordon Goodwin,” airing weekends on KJAZZ, America’s jazz and blues station. His newest recording “An Elusive Man” is due for release in fall 2016.
