Upon completion of the Bachelor of Art's program in Music Business, students will:

  1. Prepares professionals to tackle challenges of the modern music industry, understanding revenue streams and opportunities for innovative business models.
  2. Applied business and accounting, marketing, digital distribution and monetization, A&R, publishing, licensing, music supervision, artist management, tour strategies and more
  3. Establishing a strong foundation in musicianship.

MUSIC BUSINESS AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Short Essay Submission (Required)
Choose one (1) question from the following and write a detailed response with a
citation of researched sources included. Please submit your response as a PDF (500
word minimum):
-Please share your personal background, characteristics, knowledge, and strengths that
could be applied within the music industry in a positive way. Give at least three (3) specific
examples from your own life events that show evidence of stated abilities.
-The music industry is a large ecosystem of varied roles and company types. Please
describe the area(s) of the music industry that most appeal to you and explain in detail why
you feel you would be well matched to succeed in the area(s) noted.
-Over the next decade in the music industry, there will be many areas that evolve and
change. Please outline what you think those changes might include and how you plan to
adapt to the demands of an evolving professional environment, specifically attributing your
own personal abilities to be flexible and ahead of the coming trends.

Short Video Performance (Required)
Please upload a one (1) minute video of you performing any song of your choice, on
your primary instrument. The video must showcase basic musical abilities and should
demonstrate your musical strengths. Your primary instrument may be voice, piano,
guitar, etc. If your primary instrument is voice, please either sing while accompanying
yourself on an instrument, or to a backing track (No acapella submissions.)

PLEASE NOTE:

All essay submissions for the Music Business program will be reviewed using an AI
detection service. If AI-generated content is identified, applicants may be asked to
submit a new essay, or their application may be disqualified by LACM.
